About this Event
The Valencia Baryton Project will perform a chamber music concert at the North Dakota Museum of Art on Sunday, March 26th, 2023. The concert features music of the baryton, an 18th century stringed instrument similar to the viola da gamba, performed by Matthew Baker, one of the few musicians in the world to play professionally. Mr. Baker is on the faculty of the Berklee College of Music Valencia (Spain); he and his work popularing the baryton are featured in the March issue of Strad Magazine. He will be joined by Amy Dominguez who plays baroque cello and viola da gamba and violist Brett Walfish. Concert repertoire will include trios by Josef Haydn played in their original form on the rarely heard instruments for which they were written, as well as several new works by contemporary composers. While they are in Grand Forks, the musicians will participate in a masterclass for UND Music students, and on Monday, following the concert, they will perform for Grand Forks Public Schools students. The event is the third concert in the series "Myra Presents: Sunday Concerts in the Galleries," and "Monday Concerts in the Schools," sponsored by the Need Fund of the Community Foundation of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks and Region.
