The American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG) participates in global discussions about the education and experience required to be recognized as a geologist, and the criteria that define a professional geologist. Dawn Garcia, who was president of AIPG in 2023, will give background about licensure and certification programs that allow geologists to practice under state regulations and to be recognized as a professional internationally. Dawn will also describe why AIPG is important and highlight the many activities where AIPG brings value to its members (in particular, student, early career and academic members) and the profession of geology.
