Steps to Studying Abroad
It's never too early to start planning. We recommend starting this process at least one year before the term you plan to study abroad, as applications are due the term before you intend to go. It is true that any major can study abroad - with appropriate planning. Follow the steps below to get started:
1. Create your Study Abroad Profile and Explore Program Options
Create a Study Abroad Profile using your UND.edu log-in. Fill out the intake survey and browse through UND's program portfolio. Review the different program models and tips for selecting a program for more details.
2. Attend a Study Abroad 101 Session
Watch the recorded Study Abroad 101 session before making an appointment with the Study Abroad office. Study Abroad 101 covers the basics of study abroad at UND.
3. Meet with your Academic Advisor
Set up a meeting with your Academic Advisor to discuss how study abroad can fit into your academic plan and what classes to look for abroad. Use the Academic Planning page for tips on getting started and questions to ask your Advisor.
4. Meet with a Study Abroad Advisor
After completing the previous steps, you can set up a meeting on Starfish with a Study Abroad Advisor. Study Abroad Advisors help you navigate the application process, review program options, and plan for your time abroad.
5. Set a Budget
Investing in your future and making significant decisions requires budgeting. Use the Cost & Aid and Scholarship pages to find budgeting tools and explore scholarship opportunities.
