Groff v. DeJoy and the Religious Liberty of Employees

Monday, February 6, 2023 12:05 pm to 1 pm

Dr. James Phillips, an assistant professor of law at Chapman University, will be joining us to discuss the case Groff v. DeJoy, which the Supreme Court of the United States is set to hear this term. This case involves a postal worker who claims that the U.S. Postal Services discriminated against him on the basis of his faith under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act by by punishing him for refusing to work on Sunday due to Sabbath observance. This case could have a significant impact as the court will potentially define the legal standard for what constitutes an "undue hardship" under the 1972 amendment to the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Five Guys will be catered for lunch. RSVP for Lunch here: https://und.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8v11o9xwKCpchFk
