Geography Awareness Week (GAW) is celebrated internationally during the third week of November each year. GIS Day is the Wednesday of GAW dedicated to the celebration of geographic information systems (GIS) based technologies. In 2023, GAW will take place from November 13-17, and GIS Day is on November 15. The theme for 2023 National Geography Awareness Week is "The Power of Place".
To celebrate the 2023 Geography Awareness Week and GIS Day, the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Science cordially invites you to the following events:
- Display Table and Activities: Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU) and UND Geography Club will have a display table hosting activities in Memorial Union (first floor), from 11 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday November 15.
- Geography Forum: Dr. Xiao Li, Senior Researcher, Transport Studies Unit, University of Oxford, will present at Forum for Contemporary Geographic Issues. Titled “Harnessing the Geospatial Data Revolution to Empower Smart Transport and Urban Sensing”, the presentation will take place during 3:35 - 4:35 p.m. on Wednesday November 15 in O’Kelly 119.
- Geography Bee: Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU) and UND Geography Club will host a quiz show from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday November 16 in Memorial Union (Social Stairs).
