About this Event
Do you work with data in spreadsheets? Are you tired of triple checking Excel or Google Sheets to make sure it hasn’t suddenly changed your dates into numbers? There is a better way! This workshop will teach you how to clean and standardize data with OpenRefine. OpenRefine is a free, open source tool for working with messy data. This workshop will explain what it means to “clean” data, review techniques to address common data errors, and provide you with sample datasets for hands-on practice using OpenRefine.
By the end of the workshop you will be able to:
• Understand the importance of cleaning your data to enable accurate analysis
• Identify common data errors and how to address them
• Use OpenRefine features to clean tabular datasets
Beginners welcome! Participants are encouraged to download OpenRefine prior to the workshop: http://openrefine.org/download.html ;
