Celebrate Native American Month- Scavenger Hunt

A scavenger hunt for all UND students. One entry per person for a chance to win a UND hockey jersey. Complete the scavenger hunt and your entry will be submitted for a random drawing.

Learn more about American Indians right here on campus by participating in a scavenger hunt! Rules and details of scavenger hunt are below. CELEBRATE Native American Month!

The Rules: 
•    All currently enrolled UND students are eligible to participate. 
•    Use the clues below to find each location and take a selfie at all locations. 
•    To submit your entry, upload all 8 photos and email to c.americanhorse@ndus.edu. Please include your phone number & email address. The winners will be contacted by email or phone. 
•    Entries with all SELFIES will be entered in a random drawing to win a UND Hockey Jersey (10 will be drawn). 
•    The contest begins Friday, November 1st at 12:00 p.m.   
•    All entries must be submitted by Wednesday, November 20th by 4:30 p.m. 
•    The Indigenous Student Center has the right to reject any entry that is incomplete or inappropriate. 

1. The Soaring Eagle Garden was a gift from Col. Eugene E. Myers. This sculpture of a native North Dakota bird is held in high regard to many of the local tribes. Find the garden located behind the Chester Fritz Library and take a selfie.
2. This exhibition highlights and honors the exceptional work of 9 American Indian UND alumni who have become leaders in the state and their communities. Find the collections of the exhibit at the Hughes Fine Arts Center and take a selfie.
3. The RAIN (Recruitment & Retention of American Indians into Nursing) program has been assisting Native students in the areas of nursing, nutrition & dietetics, and social work for almost as long as the college itself has been established. Visit this program at the nursing building and take a selfie with any of their artwork displayed. 
4.  Find the artwork “Eye Candy” done by Jaune Quick-To-See Smith who was born in was born in St. Ignatius, Montana and is an enrolled member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Indian Nation, Montana. Go to the School of Medicine & Health Sciences and this painting can be found on the first floor of the Family & Community Medicine hallway, next to room E104. Take a selfie with it. 
5. The Indians into Medicine (INMED) program is ranked number 1 nationally for graduating AI/AN physicians. Go to the School of Medicine & Health Sciences building to visit this program and take a picture with the star quilt displayed on the wall. Take a selfie with it.  
6. Find the artwork done by Jaune Quick-To-See Smith. Her art contrasts abstract and representational elements while combining stylistic characteristics associated with both Western modern art and traditional Native forms. Find this artwork on display on the second floor of the Memorial Union and take a selfie with it.
7. There is a display called the "Newell E. and Helen B. Fait American Indian Heritage Display" at the Gorecki Alumni Center. Find the display in the Gransberg Room and take a selfie with it.
8. There is an artwork piece done by Bennett Brien called “Environmental Collaboration” on the 2nd floor of the Memorial Union. Find the artwork piece and take a selfie. 
9. There is an artwork piece done by Bill Brien that is a picture of a bear at the Hilyard Center on the 2nd floor of the Memorial Union. Find the artwork piece and take a selfie.
10. American Indian Studies is a 4-year program offered at UND. The department is located on the 2nd floor of O’Kelly Hall. Go to the department and take a selfie with it’s department sign. 
11. At the Indigenous Student Center on the wall in the commons area is a Land Acknowlegment: “Today, the University of North Dakota rests on the ancestral lands of the Pembina and Red Lake Bands of Ojibwe and the Dakota Oyate - presently existing as composite parts of the Red Lake, Turtle Mountain, White Earth Bands, and the Dakota Tribes of Minnesota and North Dakota.We acknowledge the people who resided here for generations and recognize that the spirit of the Ojibwe and Oyate people permeates this land. As a university community, we will continue to build upon our relations with the First Nations of the State of North Dakota - the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation, Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Nation, Spirit Lake Nation, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, and Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians.” Find this statement and take a selfie.
12. The Chester Fritz library has a display of Native American books to celebrate Native American Month. Find the display and take a selfie.
