About this Event
The Empire Theatre Company is producing a charming musical for all ages based on Caldecott winner Arnold Lobel's cherished books, A Year with Frog and Toad.
The musical was written by brothers Robert and Willie Reale and follows the woodland adventures of two amphibious friends, a worrywart toad and a perky frog, with their assorted colorful hopping, crawling and flying companions, over the course of a year. The show broke new ground by bringing professional children's theatre to Broadway. Arnold Lobel's daughter, Adrianne Lobel, commissioned the musical and also designed the set, based on her father's writings.[2] Her husband, actor, Mark Linn-Baker, adapted the stories into a theatrical script, and later played Toad in the musical's Broadway debut. It premiered at the Children's Theatre Company of Minneapolis in August 2002.
The Empire Arts Center is producing the musical, with support from the Bob and Sally Clayburgh Foundation and Alerus Financial. The Forward Foundation, Optimist Club, and donations from Valley Senior Living are making it possible for actors to distribute copies of Adventures with Frog and Toad to students in GF and the schools in the region.
